It's so cute 🥰 and funny when cats 🐈 do this. I had one cat that would do that with any running 💦 water. She would even reach into the washing machine when it was filling with 💦 water. The running fresh water 💦 is really what cats like and is good for them so the fountain ⛲ is a wonderful 💡 idea.

Looks like she aspirated some water. I put up a chicken waterer for my cats that had drip nozzles. When they lick the nozzle a small amount comes out. They love it because they don't have to drink from a bowl another cat has used as a mouth wash.

In cat course I did, it was said cats love running water. My new cat Unmei asks for water from sink and I have a fountain for my cats to drink (she's still dealing with territory issues and avoid important points in my home, I'm planning to buy a new fontain for her to feel better). It's so lovely how Miri deals with water, not all cats like to get wet.

I read that cats like running water. It is a throw-back to their ancestors for clean water. I had a fountain for mine to drink from but they are happy with their bowls. Except for my ginger who actually stirs the water with his paw before he drinks!

Try running drops of water instead of flowing water. Slowing down the water might help with her choking.
I’ve got what we refer to as the tag team or team little. My smallest female kitties Nellie & Lilly love the kitchen sink water. They drink it, play with it, and sit in the sink always getting soaked making a huge watery mess 🤷🏼♀️🥴🤦🏼♀️
...And I bet they have the best time doing that!
In the wild, it's the difference between running water (stream, etc.) verses standing water (puddle, pool, etc.). One interesting part of domestication is that cats slowly unlearn these survival traits, when they understand that water is always clean, noises are not dangerous, you don't have to chase everything that moves (food is always there), etc.

Miri is simply following her ancestral instincts. In the wild, cats know that flowing water is fresh, and still water is stagnant. Stagnant water does not quench thirst and can harbour bacteria. All cats, big and small know this. It's in their genetic makeup. This is why water fountains are so great for pet cats, as they mimic fresh flowing water.
Excellent idea about the ⛲ fountain.
A recirculating fountain may also help keep cats from "digging" in a bowl of water and splashing it all over. When I got one for my cat many years ago, she stopped digging.

Two of my kitties like faucet water. Ditzy laps like Miri, and takes forever. Sorrow turns her head so the water hits the corner of her mouth and goes in, then she laps. She is done quickly. I turn on a very thin stream.
